Harvest season in Hampshire is a dream for any wine lover. The vines are heavy with grapes, the air is crisp, and the countryside feels alive with tradition. Visiting now isn’t just about sipping something delicious—it’s about stepping behind the scenes and seeing the passion and heritage that go into every bottle of English sparkling wine.
Hambledon Vineyard: A Hampshire Gem
Recently, I spent a blissful three hours at Hambledon Vineyard, one of England’s most historic sparkling producers. Booking a tour or tasting is effortless—just hop onto their website and pick from their visiting options. They’ve even opened a shiny new restaurant, perfect for a post-tasting lunch, Hambledon also organise events and parties, they are not regular but it is always worth to follow on instagram, they are pretty good on socials.
We tried three wines from their range:
- Première Cuvée Rosé – Elegant and fruity, perfect for celebrations.
- Première Cuvée – Classic, complex, and beautifully balanced.
- Blanc de Blancs Cuvée – Pure Chardonnay, crisp and mineral-driven—my favourite.
Their shop is perfect for gifts or a treat for yourself—you’ll be tempted to leave with a bottle or two.
A Quick Guide to English Sparkling Wine
Hampshire’s chalky soils mirror those in Champagne, which is why English sparkling wine has become such a standout. The stars of the show are:
- Pinot Noir – Adds structure, body, and subtle red-fruit notes.
- Chardonnay – Brings freshness, citrus, and finesse.
- Pinot Meunier – Adds fruitiness, freshness, softness and charm
Together, they create sparkling wines that easily rival some of France’s finest.

Walking Around Hambledon
To balance all that wine, take a countryside stroll. The Hambledon Vineyard & Chidden Circular (about 7 km / 1.5–2 hours) is a gentle loop through rolling hills, pretty lanes, and vineyard views. You’ll pass Hambledon’s historic church and wander along parts of the South Downs Way—ideal for snapping photos and soaking up rural Hampshire.

Where to Stay
Turn your visit into a weekend getaway by booking Rushmere Farm, a peaceful countryside retreat just a short drive from Hambledon. It’s a charming spot with eco-friendly values, making it the perfect base after a day of wine tasting and walking.
Why You’ll Love It
English sparkling wine has become my absolute favourite since moving to Hampshire. Between Hambledon’s golden vines, the warm hospitality, and a walk through the Downs, it’s the perfect British countryside escape for anyone who loves a little luxury with their adventure.
